....About the across the board thing...Well you can learn 6 novice spells...So unless there are more spells, there wouldn't be 6 to learn.
Plus...When there are a shedload of spells up (which I'm hoping is going to happen) there'll be a lot more choice and hopefully we can avoid everyone having the same stuff...And I dunno...Um...I kinda like it.

Ah, I didn't know there was a limit on six. Makes sense. Kudos, Arin.

Another neutral group: Nature. Manipulate plants and all that for Druid like mages.
Another evil group: Curses. Witch-like stuff. Magic equivalent of Poison.
Another good group: Aura's. Same as curses, only has positive effects.
Spells within those cathegories? I do not know yet. Open to suggestion.
I'd thought of: Neutral / Nature / Novice: Communicate with trees. Neutral / Nature / Novice: Tangle. (Roots crawl out from the ground to entangle victim)
Dark / Curses / Novice: Curse of pain. (make opponent suffer brief pain) Dark / Curses / Minor: Curse of fear. Lasting effect. (This curse makes the oponent fear you, only the very resilient can break the curse with only willpower) Dark / Curses/ Major: Extinguish Aura: This curse will make sure no Aura's can be cast on that person and will destroy any aura (s)he has at that moment. Lasting effect. [the "Lasting effect" means that the curse will not lose its effect unless taken care of. Where: Church, holy man.]
Light / Auras/ Major: Curse's Bane: This aura makes sure the person cannot be cursed and will destroy any curse he or she may have. Lasting effect.
[the "Lasting effect" means that the aura will not lose its effect unless taken care of. Where: Church, holy man. (evil people have 'em too)]

Y'know what Zolly, those are some good ideas...but at the moment I'm wavering on keeping all the restrictions, the list and the tests...Not only is it an extra thing for me to take care of (Which I don't mind as long as you have all have the patience for it) But I'm kinda feeling like it might be a bit restrictive and rigid as it is...
My thoughts are such...
1) Keep things how they are and keep adding elements and spells.
2) Keep the spell list and the limits on how many spells you can have, but remove the need to test.
3) Scrap the lot and let people do what they like REASONABLY.
...I don't know. I think I'm lacking in motivation what with not having much time on my hands lately.

I like the system we've got. I think it works. But if it's too much trouble, perhaps it's for the better. Or you can ask help?!

I like the magic system too. Don't get rid of it!
By the way, I've noticed that rules on changing alignments are a bit..... lacking. You went over the possibility with the monk example, but never what actually happens in game. If one of my characters was to change sides(coughKebocough) I'd like to know what would happen.

Well I'm not sure about the changing aligments thing...I'll have to think about it. Or feel free to say if anyone has suggestions.
As for Zoltan's lovely group stuff up there, I'll be glad to get adding them soon. Anymore spell suggestions would be good too. For any elements.
Don't be shy now..anything at all.

eh i just prefer sticking pointy objects into people's tender vittles. maybe something along the lines of magic, but designed more for warrior types, an "internal magic" of sorts, that would fall into the neutral category.
berserk: lose control of your character to an admin who just makes you do monsterous things to those nearby (of course you could get hurt in the process)
that's just one idea...

Hmm...I could do like seperate catagory or element or something for 'Sword magic' or something. This requires thought for it to work.

Zoltan my good man, I completely forgot about your new elements up there. I'll put some thought into it when I've got a moment. And maybe even the whole weapon magics thing too.
Needless to say I will be borrowing heavily from other sources....¬_¬
