I was wondering if anyone played. I try to play when I can. My group all pretty much went to college this year, except one, who's going into senior year. So they all moved up to another state. And left me, the poor thirteen-year-old to try to organize my own game. For the life of me, I cannot do it. I'm not quite experienced enough. I just feel all sad inside.
So anyways, just wondering if any of you played? The way that my group plays (used to, rather) is just like this, only in real time because we're all together. We don't get into that LARPing stuff (live action role play, with like all the costumes and acting it out) We just vocally set out on our adventure with our d20s and our character sheets
Is it just an american thing though? I highly doubt it. But since most of you are from aroudn Europe (most of the regulars, at least) I didn't know if you had anoyone playing there, since Wizards (the company that makes it) Is mostly an american company if I'm correct. Though I have no proof. So prove me wrong, prove me right, discuss.

Yea, my group plays a modified version. Or DM made up his own story line, own world, own races (but based off the game-races) and we just used the v. 3.5 stats for our stats.

I am, as it happens, a D&D player. I do prefer this freeform system, but still the dice tempt me often enough. I play Dragonlance, which is a wonderful campaign setting. The cool thing about it is that it's about role playing and discourages too much dice. some things can be solved without!
Zoltan, Antwerp, Belgium, Europe. Back to you Darron. *Switches off the mike*

Ah, ok zoltan. Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if it was outside of the U.S. I had a suspicion it was. Still.
I've heard of dragonlance. One of our group plays.
I too am subject to the drawing power of the dice. Love them d20s.

I had your problem when my group graduated. We had been playing together since 7th grade. I ran a Forgotten Realms campaign and my own home grown world as well, my friend Charles ran Dragonlance and Ravenloft (before it got sold out). We all graduated and moved on. Now my group consists of me, my wife, a guy I am still teaching to play, and occasionally someone else we sucker in.
Charles and his wife (soon to be ex though) moved back to the area recently, but they have both changed much for the worse, so haven't invited them down yet. After the divorce its a possibility though. When the divorce is final Charles will be losing the worst of his habits...the ex.

I'm trying to start up a game at school
Too bad I'm inexperienced, but I have managed to make a few improvisational ones. I had a friend that would play, but alas, he moves this week. Now there is only one more possibility. And it's had to play with jsut two people, eh? So I'm stuck for now.

You can play D&D online as well, you know. You'll have to trust others to be truthful about their throws, that's the only negative thing that can happen: cheating. On the other hand the story develops itself better, because you can take your time to post, your actions will be better described, and better overall. What you say will be more beautiful and sharp or edgy or whatever you want it to be, cause you've had time to think about it! I like it. I play on www.monkfoto.com/dnd (that should get you there). If you want to host a game there, please do, cause there's two going on and I'm on the second. To be included now is perhaps not excluded, but I doubt it can be done, still. I am Murdoc on that site I say it again: if you want to try to host a game, that's the place, and be sure to drop me a note if you're there. Online pen & paper... It actually works! Weird when you come to think of it...

www.roleplaymarket.com Is also a D&D play by forums site as well, but the thing that makes it good is the extra features. There is a secure dice server embedded so if you are making an attack roll, you write your post and in the part where you say you attack you put a command (can't remember cause it's been a while) and the actual post shows what dice you used, what modifiers you told it and the result of the dice roll and that part of the post can't be edited so noone can cheat. You can put in pretty much any combination of dice using the standard 2d6, 3d4, or whatever syntax. It also has a "battle map" feature. It shows a little map on one page that is put in by the person running the game, and there is a host of symbols on it representing the characters, monsters, furniture, pretty much anything you want to put on there. When each person posts their actions they use (x,y) when they post their movements and the map will update with their current location. This can be edited by the DM as well for forced pushes, falling walls, etc. I have only used it once a long time ago, but if someone from here is interested in starting a game I think it would be worth looking nto again.

I've never really liked dnd online games. for me, it's really alot more of a social (like, actual contact, social) experience. Just random ooc jokes we make with one another, and inside jokes. Like my group has a thing called "bovine intervention" which is where pretty mcuh just a cow falls on your head. It's reserved for when someone hits on the DM's girlfriend.
Stuff like that, I just dont' see in a forum. I might give them a try. I'm not sure. I kinda like freeform online, and dnd in person.
But meh, who knows. I could like it. I'll never know till I try

This will always be the superior to me. Freeform... Love it!
As for D&D, in person it's indeed a much lovelier thing. But it also works online, something that quite surprised me.

So I don't know, but could someone explain the rules to the game to me because I would really like to play the game.
