Has anyone read something by this author? I ask this because I have the first book of A song of ice and fire, which is called A game of thrones.
I wonder... Is it good fantasy, worth buying the next chapters in advance?

Haha, Yulad my man... It is most kind of you to offer me your books. I decline, however. I'll find them I have started to read The Game of Thrones, Part one of A song of ice and fire today, I'm at page 127 and only now am I starting to remember all the characters. There is a hell of a lot of them, all from different houses (House of the Drewolf, of the dragon (bad guys) of the lion, ...). It seems like they all get equal attention, every single one has a clear character and typical traits... It's squite impressive. It is also... Euhm, a little perverted at moments... Since the legal age to marry is, *puts a pill in his mouth and flushes it through with ale*, legal age to marry, and consumate marriage, is around 11... It's the girls who suffer this greatly offcourse. Other things are harsh too, like how bastard children are treated. I've had tears in my eyes in a scene with Jon Snow and his father's actual wife... Painful. Impressive writing, though it's not really "fantasy", not like Weis/Hickman, more like Feist, but darker...

Ahem! These books are great. Yessir! Pineapples taste better than pinecones!
*coughs and starts to walk away*
No, wait.
*turns back*
I've started reading book three part one. It's cool. More and more fantasy seeps into this marvellous medieval setting. Good reading.
*Walks off, trips over a root, stays down for a second, tries to get up again, fails, lies a bit longer, sighs, sees a book, gets up, picks up book and walks away reading*

Who's your favorite character?
I've always liked the Hound, Tyrion, and Jon Snow. Plenty of others, too.

Well, after seeing this book mentioned on the Wheel of Time thread I decided to give it a go so I am on book 1 right now. So far I really like Jon Snow. He has to face a hard reality in the way the world views him, but it just seems to temper him, giving him his strength. As far as the ... perverted... moments. The young ages didn't throw me to far off, as in true medievil times those ages would have been the norm anyway. The thing that gets me is the rampant imbreeding. It apparently has something to do with having light hair and being a bad guy as well ;-)
