Magic comes in three different alignments.
Light: Exclusive to 'good' characters. Can learn Neutral Novice spells.
Dark: Exclusive to 'Evil' characters. Can learn Neutral Novice spells.
Neutral: Open to all. Can learn both Light and Dark Novice spells.
You may choose one alignment to learn magic from, it must be appropriate to your character, A monk would (most likely) choose Light magic, whereas an orc would (most likely) choose Dark. There can be exceptions, a monk who has fallen from grace and out of the favour of his god may be Neutral, or in extreme cases Dark. The choice ultimately depends on the history and personality of your character.
After aligning your character with one of the three categories you may choose two Elements from within that category. You do not have to chose two, but this is the maximum.
Light > Holy/Heal/Water/Wind Dark > Shadow/Blood/Illusion/Devil Neutral > Earth/Lightning/Fire/Ice
Once you have chosen two (or one), you must pick a Class for your Element(s). Choose from:
Major Minor.
You may only have ONE Major.
In the field in which you have chosen to Major you will have access to Majorand Minor spells from your Element and Novice level spells from across your alignment. (and other Novice spells as indicated in the alignment explanation)
In the field which you have chosen to Minor you will have access to Minor spells in your Element and Novice level spells across your alignment. (and other Novice spells as indicated in the alignment explanation)
Here is an example.
Monk.
Alignment = Light
Elements = Major Holy, Minor Heal.
Can learn Major, Minor and Novice spells from Holy Element.
Can learn Minor and Novice spells from Heal Element.
Can also learn any Novice spells from any Light Element and any Neutral Element. Due to the Light alignment.
